Description
India celebrates Makar Sankrant, also known as Pongal, Magha Bihu, and by other names in different states, and heralds the auspicious beginning of the harvest season. A lesser-known but equally fascinating festival takes place in Solapur. The Gadda Yatra is a centuries-old tradition honoring Saint Siddheshwar, believed to be a reincarnation of Lord Shiva.
Legend has it that a potter girl once wished to marry Siddharama, but he, having taken a vow of celibacy, gently rejected her and advised her to marry his Yogadanda (wooden club) instead. The Gadda Yatra celebrates this symbolic marriage.
The sight is unforgettable - thousands of men in all white, alongside women in brightly colored sarees, celebrating with devotion and joy. A truly unique cultural experience!
